This online training course will introduce the learner to the Mental Capacity Act, initially looking in detail at what it means to have, or to lack, mental capacity, why the act was introduced, who is covered by the act and how the act links to other UK legislation. The five principles of the act will be considered. The course also look in detail at how capacity is assessed and the various ways in which lack of capacity can be planned for, including advanced decisions, lasting powers of attorney, the office of public guardian and the role of the court of protection.
